Well I've decided to try the blog journal! I love to cook and am on an adventure of a lifetime, losing weight, cooking healthy foods and feeding my family. I am using the SparkPeople tools to accomplish my goals and they are incredibly helpful to anyone who cooks a lot from whole and natural foods.
Exactly how many calories are in that steaming apple pie (hint: more than 3000!) or how about a healthy veggie stir fry? I only use stainless steel and cast iron in my kitchen, so a little more oil can be needed. Well my healthy stir fries turn into something else when I just add the oil as I need it instead of being smart about how I am cooking!
I use to get so mad at people trying to explain to me how to eat. Trust me, I have read so many nutritional books, studied so many "healthy" cookbooks, grow my own food, buy directly from organic farmers, cook almost all my own food, have not eaten fast food in over 10 years, have been on at least 10 different diets.... I know food. But I am classified as obese.
Part of it is time, part of it is children, part of it is denial, part is laziness but the real truth is I am obese because of the choices I make. Unless I change those choices I will continue to put on weight and invite a whole slew of health issues my way.
So it is time to change. Time to lose 80lbs! Can I do it, yep. I was that weight at one time in my life and I can do it again.
I am in my third week of my life change and down 8lbs so far. I dutifully enter my nutrition into the tools in SparkPeople every day. And it helps me to stay within my calorie range. Currently 1450-1800/day. Plus I have burn 1700 calories a week through exercise.
As I go on I will be posting healthy recipes that I design to help me stay inside my calorie range. I am not afraid of a good pastured egg, including the yolks, a little high quality butter or chocolate or some good fat in every dish. So my recipes are not diet food, but good healthy food for a lifetime.
